Auburn Township Real Estate
Bildad Bradley became Auburn Ohio's first citizen in 1815 through a mistake. He built a home in Newbury the previous year, only to find it on the wrong lot. He tore it down and moved it to Auburn.
Growth was slow in Auburn's first century with little industry except a box factory and probably a cheese factory, grist mill and saw mill. Most of the early residents were farmers and Auburn was noted for fine dairy farms. Sheep and beef cattle were also raised and maple syrup and maple sugar were produced by many farmers. Today a few farmers are left in Auburn but much of it has turned into housing with the big growth impetus coming in the 1980's and 1990's. Auburn Lakes is the best known of the beautiful new housing developments.
Industry has come to the area with small and medium businesses continually developing on Munn Road. Auburn became a recreational area when LaDue Reservoir was developed as a water resource for the city of Akron. With the new limited access Route 422 running directly through Auburn, growth is accelerating.
Auburn continues with the township form of government with an estimated 1998 population of 3,298, a median income of $45,625, and distance to Cleveland is 26 miles.
